Eating disorders
Information and education only
This article provides general information and education. It does not provide individual advice or replace assessment, diagnosis or care from a qualified professional. The information is not exhaustive and should be understood in its cultural and local context.
About the source and review
Adapted and abridged from educational manuscripts by Bineta Gueye Thiam. Current public sources were checked on 13 October 2026 for this web edition. These editorial checks are not an independent clinical review; no clinical reviewer is claimed for this edition.
Eating disorders can seriously affect physical and mental health. The manuscript discusses anorexia nervosa, bulimia and binge-eating disorder. Experiences vary, and difficulties cannot be judged from someone’s appearance or body size.
Everyday experiences
The source describes changes in eating and distress around food or body image. Not every eating disorder involves concerns about weight. These conditions can affect people at different ages and require professional assessment.
Support and care
Care may combine medical monitoring, psychological treatment and nutritional support tailored to the person. Early help matters. Listening without judgment and supporting access to care can help; a simple instruction to eat differently is not a treatment plan. Serious physical illness or an immediate danger to life requires urgent medical care.
