About the source and review

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition involving persistent difficulties with attention and/or hyperactivity and impulsivity that affect everyday functioning. It begins in childhood and can continue into adulthood.

Understanding experiences

The recognised presentations are predominantly inattentive, predominantly hyperactive-impulsive and combined. Their expression can change over time.

Support and care

Assessment considers development, everyday settings and other possible explanations. Support can include adjustments at school or work, behavioural approaches and, where appropriate, medicines prescribed by a qualified professional. Needs and care choices vary with age and circumstances.
