Information and education only

This article provides general information and education. It does not provide individual advice or replace assessment, diagnosis or care from a qualified professional. The information is not exhaustive and should be understood in its cultural and local context.

About the source and review

Adapted and abridged from educational manuscripts by Bineta Gueye Thiam. Current public sources were checked on 13 October 2026 for this web edition. These editorial checks are not an independent clinical review; no clinical reviewer is claimed for this edition.

Parkinson’s disease affects the brain and can cause slow movement, stiffness and tremor. It can also affect sleep, mood and thinking. It is more common in older adults, but younger adults can develop it too.

Understanding experiences

The manuscript describes changes in walking and everyday activities. Not everyone has the same symptoms, and difficulties with movement can have other causes. Professional assessment is needed.

Support and care

There is no cure, but medicines, therapies and practical support can help manage symptoms and daily life. Care choices depend on the person and their changing needs. The source encourages patience, help with daily tasks and activities the person values, alongside support for carers.
