Alzheimer’s disease
Information and education only
This article provides general information and education. It does not provide individual advice or replace assessment, diagnosis or care from a qualified professional. The information is not exhaustive and should be understood in its cultural and local context.
About the source and review
Adapted and abridged from educational manuscripts by Bineta Gueye Thiam. Current public sources were checked on 13 October 2026 for this web edition. These editorial checks are not an independent clinical review; no clinical reviewer is claimed for this edition.
Alzheimer’s disease affects the brain and is a common cause of dementia. It can progressively affect memory, communication and everyday activities. Although more common in older people, it can occur earlier in adulthood.
Understanding experiences
The source describes difficulty remembering recent events, finding words and managing familiar tasks. A professional assessment is needed because similar difficulties can have other causes.
Support and care
There is no cure. Care may include medicines and practical support, with treatment decisions made by qualified professionals. Some treatments have narrow eligibility and monitoring requirements; access varies by country. No treatment or local availability is promised here. The manuscript emphasises patience, meaningful activities and support for the person and their carers.
