About the source and review

Adapted and abridged from educational manuscripts by Bineta Gueye Thiam. Current public sources were checked on 13 October 2026 for this web edition. These editorial checks are not an independent clinical review; no clinical reviewer is claimed for this edition.

Huntington’s disease is an inherited condition affecting the brain. It can cause changes in movement, thinking, behaviour and emotions. Symptoms often begin in adulthood, commonly between 30 and 50, but can begin earlier or later.

Understanding experiences

The manuscript describes involuntary movements and increasing difficulties with daily activities. Experiences vary; specialist assessment and genetic counselling help people understand diagnosis and family implications.

Support and care

There is no cure, but professional care can help manage symptoms and support quality of life. Care may address movement, communication, swallowing and mental health. The source highlights emotional and practical support that respects the person’s choices, including support for family members.
